What You Need for Your Cloth Diaper Wash

Posted by Bridget on 6/10/2012 to Getting Started

Many people like the idea of cloth diapers, but are hesitant about them because of the cleaning process. Cleaning cloth diapers to reuse them can be a very easy process if you have everything that you need. This article will introduce you to everything you need for your diaper wash to keep the mess as low as possible.

The first thing you will need to invest in for your diaper wash is some sort of sprayer so that you can spray off the more heavily soiled diapers because you can’t just throw them in the washer. You need to be able to spray off the diapers before you put them into the wash or before you store them in the pail until diaper wash time comes.

You obviously need a pail to keep the diapers in. These air tight pails are available at most places where you can buy cloth diapers and accessories for them. You will also be able to buy wet and dry bags for these, but these are optional diaper wash accessories that you can decide to buy or not to buy. That is up to you.

You need to have a special detergent in order to wash your cloth diapers in your machine. This detergent is also sold at the same places. There are a couple of different detergents to choose from, but the ones recommended by the diaper company are the only ones that you should use when doing your diaper wash because they are the only ones that will get it as clean as it can be.

The last thing you will need when you are doing your diaper wash is a place to hang the diaper covers to dry because you can’t dry these in your dryer. You will need somewhere that you can hang them even when the weather is cold that won’t get in the way because you will be doing this often.

The diaper wash is the biggest part of cloth diapering, but if you have everything that you need, then you will be able to clean your cloth diapers with very little mess at all.
