The Post Partum Mommy

Posted by Becca on 11/17/2015 to Mom Madness

It’s 2am. I’m in the hospital with my newborn. I’m exhausted. I should be sleeping. But I’m not. I’m not because, as with every delivery, a weird cocktail of excitement and worry runs through my veins like caffeine despite the hours I spent in the intense, physical exertion of labor and the sleepless night that preceded it. I lay there with my baby in the clear bassinet next to my hospital bed and I tell my body, “Be quiet. Go to sleep. Relax.”

Mom to Mom: Do you have a birth plan?

birthplanAt about six weeks away from delivery, even though I seem to be lackadaisical and lethargic about preparing for this poor baby number three, I did remember to pull up my birth plan from my son’s birth, review it, and have it ready to print...(read more)

Mom to Mom: Braxton Hicks and Subsequent Pregnancies

braxton hicksSo, I’m on my third pregnancy and I’m dying to know: Am I the only one totally and completely confused by Braxton Hicks contractions? They’re driving me crazy. Sending me into anxious fits. Interrupting loads of work that need to be done before the baby comes.

He loves opening said fluffy mail all by himself and discovering the new diapers inside. He is most especially pleased if those diapers have adorable little prints...(read more)

Mom to Mom: Cloth Diapering Brands that have lasted me the longest!

long lasting cloth diapers, diapersOf the brands of cloth diapers I’ve used over the years, you might be surprised at those that have held up the longest because they may or may not be the most popular. In fact, my longest lasting pockets aren’t my favorite. That could be because my least favorite brands didn’t get used as often so they didn’t wear out as quickly. It could also be because they- (Read more...)

Mom to Mom: Making it through a 3rd pregnancy with hyperemesis gravidarum

Posted by Becca on 4/30/2015 to Mom Madness
hyperemesis gravidarum, cloth diapersI'm fourteen weeks pregnant now (FINALLY!!!), and the past two months were almost as difficult as I feared they might be, with surprise days sprinkled throughout where I felt nearly normal. I have a history of very, uncomfortable pregnancies. My first was awful. I'd gone into it expecting to be this happy, glowing pregnant woman, and I was nauseated for months...(read more)

Mom to Mom: Family Planning and the Unplanned

family planningWhen I got married, there was one thing I suddenly had to think about that I hadn’t given any though to before: birth control. I know I’m not in the majority here, many women think about it far before marriage, but for my husband and I birth control was a moot point until

Mom to Mom: Just another crazy day in the life of a mom!

Posted by Becca on 2/2/2015 to Mom Madness
motherhoodI wake up at 5:00am every day so that I can have some time to myself. It’s not that I don’t love my children and my hubby, but after teaching part time and coming directly home to take care of my sweethearts and then chasing after them for most of the afternoon, I find

Pregnancy: When to find out the gender of your baby?

Posted by Becca on 1/28/2015 to Mom Madness
gender revealBack when my mom was first having children, discovering the gender before birth wasn’t very common, and I’m not sure it was even an option when she was pregnant with me. I’m the oldest of seven and I believe the first time she discovered the gender of one of my...(read more)

Fun Cloth Diapering and the "Collect them all" mentaility

Posted by Becca on 1/8/2015 to Cloth Diaper Humor
cloth diapersI have to admit to you, I have a “collect them all” mentality when it comes to cloth diapers. When I first started buying them, I made sure I had every bumGenius 3.0 available. Back in 2009 that wasn’t difficult because they didn’t even have prints yet. I remember when Fuzzi Bunz changed their colors to a more brilliant palate a year after...(read more)
