Family Focus: The Watsons

Posted by Valerie on 7/3/2013 to Family Focus

The Family Focus series allows us to spotlight a cloth-diapering family that makes our online community so strong. This month's Family Focus is on the Watson family. Bambi and mark have been married for 5 years and are proud parents to celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary in April and are proud parents to Bannon 3.5 years, Bobo (Beycen) 2.5 years, and Baelin 3 months.

How many diapers are in your stash?!?!? Oh no, I hope Mark doesn't read this!! Maybe 75-100 and I didn't count covers. I might have an addiction problem.

What is your favorite diaper and why? It depends on the kid. For Bannon (3.5 years old) I only use them at night and love the Mother Ease bed wetter with an extra Best Bottom insert. He is always dry and can put them on himself. For Bobo (2.5 years old) I've been using a mix of Blueberry pockets and EcoPosh trainers. With real poo vs infant poo I like that the Blueberry's don't have an extra gusset. It just seems to be easier to clean. And the Blueberry's still have room. For the baby I like fitteds with Blueberry covers or Best Bottom's with covers. I also like Rumparoos for him too. The gussets really hold breast fed poo like a charm. I've never had a blow out.

What was the thing about Motherhood that came the easiest to you? Loving all of them. When I got pregnant with my second I had a little bit of guilt thinking I couldn't possibly love another child as much as my first, but I do. I also think accepting my new body came easy. I was a fitness trainer before and thought I'd hate my new flab, but I actually love it. Sounds strange huh? But when I look at myself I don't see that I missed the gym. I see that I spent time with my boys. Teaching them, holding them and loving them. I only have them for a short time, the gym can wait, I'd rather be with them and accept my stretch marks and fat pants.

What has been the hardest thing? Time management for sure!!! When the baby needs changed and fed at the same time I'm making lunch I get frazzled. I have no idea how to get on a schedule where everyone is happy all the time.

Are you a SAHM, Working mom or WAHM or does your spouse stay home? SAHM. I'm in awe of moms that can get it together enough to go to work. They need more praise. I can't get a shower most days, but there are women (some single!) that can get their kids ready, themselves ready and leave the house on time!!!! How???

What issues are important to you that led you to cloth diapering? Enviroment? Cost? Natural parenting? All of the above. My second ended up with c-diff (an intestinal infection) for 8 months. He pooped every 15 minutes for the entire 8 months. I was going through too many diapers and he had rashes all the time. I tried cloth and it was the easiest thing ever. I wish I would have started with my first...Can you imagine how big my stash would be if I had an extra 2 years to collect!!?

Has Cloth Diapering made me "greener" in other areas? No, I think it's the opposite. We had a hybrid vehicle before, recycled before and reused before. This was one of the last steps.

How does your family celebrate Independence Day? We have never had a tradition. Last year my husband was in Afghanistan and this year we are going to my parents. I feel like you can celebrate however you want, as long as you take the time to remember why we have our independence and our liberties.

Thanks for sharing! I love hearing how many moms have a hard time when they are pregnant with their second thinking how could I possibly love another child as much as my first. I think it's a common and more moms need to know they aren't the only one.

I think time management is the thing I am the most scared of with baby #2 coming in a couple months! I have heard many places, including here now, that it is one of the greatest challenges of moms with more than one child & it is always encouraging to see someone survive it!

I'm so glad to find someone who continues to use cloth diapers after having a child with c diff. My baby had c diff while using cloth diapers and I was told I should just get rid of them, bcuz they would just re-infect my son. I've been using disposables but really want to go back to cloth! How did u disinfect your cloth diapers? Have u had a reoccurrance of c diff? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!
