When I first started researching cloth diapers on the internet I came across many photos of other people's babies crawling around in these squishy soft cloth diapers in colorful prints. On the outside, they look like they work similar to a disposable diaper, they look like they're all one piece. They were fitted cloth diapers.
What's a Fitted Cloth Diaper?
Fitted cloth diapers come in all shapes, sizes and materials. The ONE, single most important thing to know about fitted cloth diapers is that THEY ARE NOT WATERPROOF.
Fitted cloth diapers are one part of a two part system. They are comprised of the absorbent materials. Yes, they look like a diaper, are shaped like a diaper, fasten like a diaper, but they need a waterproof cover to work like a diaper.
So what's with those people I saw who let their babies go without a cover? Well there could be a few reasons you may see babies wearing fitted diapers without a cover.
They may be coverless because they just had a diaper change and mama wants to see them strolling around in their cute squishy diaper. Or, they may be coverless because mama plans to keep a close eye on baby and as soon as they're damp she'll change them.
Without a cover, yes, the diaper will feel wet and whatever baby is sitting on will get wet or at least damp. So the proper way to use a fitted is with a cover, either Wool, Fleece or PUL/TPU..
Benefits of using fitted cloth diapers
Many people love fitted cloth diapers because they're very absorbent, easy to use and provide a great fit. With fitted diapers you don't generally have to worry about pins, you don't get bunching and because they often have elasticized legs you don't get leakage.

You'll be able to re use your wool cover as only the fitted diaper requires changing when soiled.
Fitted cloth diapers come in sized options wich provide a trim fit without excess bulk, one size options for families who want to save money or have more than one in cloth diapers and even newborn sizes with an umbilical notch for comfort.
