We just found out yesterday that our friend Tereson Dupuy, inventor and Head Mom over at FuzziBunz, was asked to appear on CBS's Eye on Parenting video segment to talk about cloth diapers. If you've followed the blog, and others in the cloth diapering community, you know that Natali Morris famously took a month to try her hand at using cloth (we talked about that here, and her husband's take on it here).

If you have been following Natali Morris's adventures in cloth diapering,which she has pledged to do for 30 days after the, ah, encouragement of some cloth moms, you may not realize her husband has a video podcast on parenting as well, looking at things from Dad's point of view. We only recently discovered it ourselves. Looking at Episode 14 of Daddy on Board, though, it seems the dads aren't taking cloth as seriously.

The prints are wild and colorful, and word around the office is that they look perfect for boys and girls to wear. We've discussed on the blog before about gender issues with cloth diapers, with some public opinion wishing for more "masculine" designs, but here we think bumGenius has a good handle on cloth diaper fashion. Ah, the good old days...seems every generation has an amazing story to tell about how  their own personal ingenuity and perseverance helped make life a bit more pleasant, even in times of adversity. We may roll our eyes when our elders play the "I used to walk in a blizzard, up a hill, both ways to school" card, though lately the old days of hardship are probably more defined by memories of using (gasp!) dial-up Internet and rotary phones.

The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette posted a nice article on green living, which features the use of cloth diapers. We're especially happy to see this passage which refers to mom Deana Snyder's use of cloth:

Here in the U.S. we need to follow the lead of Vaudreuil-Dorion, an off-island town offering cash incentives to families willing to buy non-disposable diapers! And if you think people can't be bribed to consider cloth diapers, think again!

In it she described how cloth diapers are "en vogue with snaps and Velcro and other added conveniences" and that "The diapers ride the green wave for families hoping to cut back on the amount of waste they produce."

It is always encouraging to hear about new and thriving cloth diaper services. Friday, Amanda Lucci, a StarNews Correspondent for the Wilmington Star News, featured Green Baby Diaper Service, owned by a mother-daughter team, Polly Buskirk and Liz Soffera.

Green Baby Diaper Service, based in Wilmington, NC, provides start-up instructions and resources for cloth diapering, as well as a delivery or drop-off cleaning service for those using cloth diapers. They service the surrounding counties of Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender.

Nichole McLeod and Julie Adamson of Happy Nappy Diaper Service serving customers from North Vancouver to Chilliwack, are committed to cloth diapers; they think the government should be as well. These two entrepreneurs are lobbying the federal government to give a tax break for families using cloth diapers. The want this tax credit to include both families who use a cloth diaper service or those that wash them at home.

Guy Quenneville of the Northern News Service published an interesting article, Dirty Deeds offers Clean Agenda, about Elsbeth Fielding and her new cloth diaper service, Dirty Deeds Diaper Service. The business now a year old, Fielding supplies new mothers with cloth diapers on a weekly basis.

Wanting to cut down on waste this one woman show decided the landfills were already full enough - she simply did not want to keep adding more.

There has been quite a bit of New Year controversy surrounding regulations under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) set to go into effect February 10, 2009. Aimed at protecting children from lead-tainted products, the CPSIA, has missed the mark; the damage could be disastrous.

Every once in a while, in my search for the latest in cloth diaper news, I come across an interview or write-up that smacks of biased journalism.

When Dani Tobey, owner of babycottonbottoms.com in Colorado Springs, CO, gave an interview to her local paper, I can imagine she had high hopes for a fair representation of her start-up business.

As I've stated here at CDB more than once, disposable diapers are for single use only, but wait! Maybe, I'm wrong. And if so, I've got to hand it to Luciana Piciacchia, vice-president of Quebec operations for the global engineering giant AMEC PLC. Why? You ask. Because Piciacchia is overseeing the design of a plant in Quebec that intends to churn up the 3.6 million tons of diaper waste accumulated in the last 3 1/2 decades, and subsequent decades, and make it into synthetic diesel fuel.

Of course babies can be diaper free - just take off their diaper! Yea, and then see what mess ensues. Unless, that is, you adopt the techniques used by those teaching Elimination Communication.

Elimination Communication, also referred to as Infant Potty Training, is steadily picking up speed in the United States as another alternative to dealing with baby's waste.

Faye Butler is not the only momma that has said something like this:
"My impression of cloth diapers was always a faint memory of plain white flat cotton cloths and hot vinyl Gerber pants,"

In the last several years, we have heard those words over and over from mothers, fathers, and guardians who have stumbled upon our online cloth diaper store.

This morning I read a very honest article, Confessions of a Cloth-Diapering Failure. Part of the business of promoting and selling cloth diapers, of course, is troubleshooting with customers when their cloth diapering experience doesn't measure up to their initial expectations.

In one of my posts back in March I asked the question, "Are you trading trash for your personal convenience?" I wrote:

"There are battles after battles for where to place the newest landfills. No one wants them in their backyard - who can blame them - but it doesnt stop their usage of them. I take issue with that. If you are a mass contributor to the mess - then at least carry the responsibility."

We talk a lot about cloth diapering here ... *der* we are a cloth diapering blog, however, we are also strong advocates of many other natural family living choices. And by family, we mean everyone in the family. Making more natural living choices means getting everyone on board. It IS a family's business to be about the work of making more earth-friendly, healthy choices.

The Real Diaper Association does it right in so many ways. The mission is basic, "to increase the use of simple, reusable cloth diapers". And in the last few years, they have done just that.

We often get mothers' perspective on cloth diapering, but many times the dad's aren't supportive until the diapers enter their homes and they can see firsthand how easy cloth diapers can be.
