My daughter's preschool teacher had one of those looks on her face.

Uh oh. Here it comes, I thought. What did my daughter do at school today?

When I started cloth diapering, I didn’t have enough money to buy all my diapers at once.  I had to save the money and add to my stash quite gradually.  Because my focus at the time was simply getting enough diapers to last my daughter between washes, I didn’t even think about cloth diapering accessories for a long time.  As you can guess, my dirty diaper storage was interesting, at best.

I had the popular belief that cloth diapering was gross and disgusting. I even remember helping my mom decades ago swishing out diapers in the toilet...yuck. I even said then that I would never cloth diaper, but I find myself a year into my cloth diapering journey and I love it!

My friend had her baby in these adorable diapers that were all colorful and of course I needed to inquire. They were one size pocket diapers in a variety of cute colors. I had to try it. Upon receiving my new cloth diapers I have not gone back. I enjoyed saving money and having my sweet babe look so cute.

If you’re a regular reader here at the Cloth Diaper Blog then you may have read a post I wrote a couple of months back about how our beautiful little girl opened one of her pocket diapers with hook and loop closures during naptime and proceeded to finger paint her crib with poop.

Since then, my husband and I have been VERY CAREFUL about hook and loop diapers around our daughter’s little, exploring fingers. But that doesn’t mean that we’re as careful as we mean to be.  It just takes once…or twice, in our case.

When I started looking in to cloth diapering, I assumed you were supposed to pick one brand/style and use it for every diaper change, all day, all night. I thought it would be so complicated and confusing to have different brands and styles, different covers, inserts, materials, etc. I quickly learned that each style of diaper has its pros and cons, and that an entire stash made out of one style may not function as well as a diverse one.

Most people would agree doing the laundry is just another obnoxious, never ending chore that must get done. I’ve never been one to enjoy it. I will let the clothes pile up and spill out of the hamper before I reluctantly decide its time to run the washing machine. Knowing how I am with my clothes, I was a bit concerned about the process of washing cloth diapers. It sounds complicated. It might be gross. What detergent do I use?!

I love cloth diapering for so may reasons, but I think this one may top them all: getting out of diapers sooner. Among the parental joys of toddlerhood ”precious hugs and kisses, repeated renditions of the ABC song, adorable words and phrases to record in memory books” successful use of the potty ranks right up there at the top.

Diaper sprayers are a wonderful invention. They function for so many things other than just cleaning off your poopy diapers. They're great for cleaning your bathroom, for personal hygeine, and even for your mama pads. In fact, diaper sprayers are really an old invention because you'll find them in most houses and hotels throughout Europe in the form of a bidet. But I digress.
