Prefold diapers really aren't complicated or inconvenient!

When I first started cloth diapering I was immediately drawn to < ahref="/pocket-diapers.html">pocket diapers. Even though they involved the work of stuffing them, the ease of each diaper change really appealed to me. I had researched all types of diapers by reading product reviews, blogs and by watching YouTube videos. A lot of people extolled the virtues of the prefold but it just seemed too complicated to me. You have to fold them and pin them. And they require a diaper cover. This, in my mind, was like putting on two diapers each time and it seemed like too much work. Besides, they were 'old-fashioned' and diapers had come such a long way since prefold diapers were first used.

Are prefolds old fashioned and inconvenient?

Awhile back Diaper Junction had a sale on all their Diaper Rite prefolds. After hearing from multiple people about how great they were I decided getting them cheaper was a good way of trying them out. I already had covers from some All-In-Two diapers I'd purchased for my daughter. (My son is still in pockets.) I only needed to purchase the actual prefolds. I liked that they came in specific sizes knowing that would involve less folding. My daughter was 2 months old at the time so I purchased some small ones and a Snappi to fasten them. After six wash/rinse cycles they were ready to use. I couldn't believe how soft they felt! All the little wrinkles and folds convinced me they'd be quite absorbent.

Once I got the basic 'angel fold' down I found that these diapers were SO much easier to use than I ever imagined. They have a very trim and snug fit and the Snappi makes sure they stay in place. As time goes by and they receive more washings they become even more absorbent. I have never had a single leak while using them. After just a few days of use I was completely sold and wishing I had been using them the whole time with my little girl. They are my go-to diaper every time. Once I earned some Stash Cash I went and bought a few dozen more so they could be my primary diaper for her.

Even without a discount these diapers are so affordable. If you love the idea of cloth diapering but can't afford a whole stash of pocket diapers or all-in-ones I highly recommend using prefolds. You can easily get by with a handful of covers since you only need to change them if they become soiled. And a couple dozen prefolds will get you by, though having more means washing them less often.

And as far as being 'old-fashioned?' I love it. I love seeing my daughter in her prefold and feeling like I'm almost reaching into the past. She's another of many generations of my family (including myself) to wear this type of diaper. So, if you're like me and are wary of jumping into the prefold pool, take the plunge. You'll be so glad you did!

I was on the other side of this fence. When I was pregnant and started researching cloth diapers I decided early on that I wanted to use prefolds exclusively. I like only have 100% cotton on my LO's bum and was turned off by the claims of "microfiber stink." We have been using our DR prefolds with Best Bottom covers since LO was 2 weeks old (4 1/2 months old now) and could never go back! We actually don't use the snappis as we just never got the hang of them, and I hated unhooking a wet snappi f

I love using prefolds too! Other then the AIO diaper I think prefolds are the easiest CD out there. My LO seems just as comfy in them as she does in any other diaper I put on her. Plus they make my wallet nice and comfy ;)

I LOVE prefolds!! We tried everything gdiapers offered for to use in their covers. We used the biodegrable inserts in them for almost 2 years with our son. We had some leaks occasionally, but dealt with it. Then with our daughter we wanted to go full on cloth. We tried the gcloth but had leaks all the time. So we went back to the biodegrable refills but I hated spending the money. A friend told us about prefolds so I bought some and I will never go back. I can't believe how much they hold

After all my research prefolds actually seem easier than Pockets.....Although I'm very impatiently awaiting my stash so I can begin cloth diapering! I can hardly wait! I got all Diaper Rite because reviews are really good!
