It's summertime and our family takes a more lax approach during summer months than during the school year. More play, less work, less rigid schedule...
My husband and I are in our 10th year of parenting and this year our nonchalant summer plans and relaxed attitudes took a turn for the worse.
Summer Challenge: Bedtime
During the school year our kids generally wake around 6:45am and I have them to school by 7:45, we live just a couple miles from the school. Bedtime is generally 7:30pm for my sons, who were in Kindergarten and 8:30 for my daughter who was in 4th grade.
Although I'd love it if summer meant that I got to sleep in as late as the kids and I wanted, this turned out to be a bad idea. Just a couple weeks into summer and only waking about an hour later than usual and my kids were having a really hard time going to sleep at night. Certainly not the one hour in the morning equaling one hour later in the evening.
Sadly I adjusted our schedule, though I'd love to sleep in, and we're back to all being up and awake at 7:30am with 8:30 and 9:30 bedtimes.
I had flashbacks from when my kids were babies and toddlers and how I decided to sacrifice sleeping in for more time in the evenings with my husband after they'd gone to bed.
I never thought I'd be ONE OF THOSE moms who plans their day and trips around bedtimes and naptimes but that did and has become me and it's what works best for our family.
This is not to say we don't still have fun during the summer and go with the flow, but it only takes my kids one or two times of being kept up late or being allowed to sleep in to throw their schedules and behavior all out of whack.
So do you have pretty strict morning and bedtime routines or does it vary day by day? Do you like your methods or wish it were one way or another? Please share!

We keep bedtime pretty strict, but don't have to worry too much about mornings because he is naturally an early riser & usually ends up waking me up! If we aren't strict on bedtime it just makes nights hard because he gets overtired.

We have a later bedtime in the summer (partially because it is light outside for so long) and just do naps so my kiddos aren't tired. Works for us!
