The Family Focus series allows us to spotlight a cloth-diapering family that makes our online community so strong. This month's Family Focus is on the Valenzuela family. Polly and Edward have been married for 8 years, but together as a couple for 11 years. They have two children and their third child is expected to arrive any day now. You may recognize Polly from Sew-Fatty where she blogs about being a proud mommy and military wife.
How many diapers are in your stash!?Lost count, maybe around 40-50.
What is your favorite diaper and why? My ultimate favorite diaper would have to be our bum genius 4.0 cloth diapers. They are simple, affordable, and cute for first time cloth diapering parents. Our stash is composed of mostly bum genius along with a few others.
How many kids do you have? What ages?Adryana, 6 years old, Ashton, 17 months, and expecting our little Edward any day now (my due date is April 10th).
What was the thing about Motherhood that came the easiest to you? That instant love and care you get, as soon as your baby is born. It's amazing how much you love this little person, yet you've just met them. Its amazing how GOD works.
What has been the hardest thing? My biggest struggle would have to be, making sure I show and express my love to both my daughter and son. I don't ever want them to feel as though I love one more then the other.
Are you a SAHM, Working mom or WAHM or does your spouse stay home? I am a happy SAHM, that enjoys to sew, blog, clean and take tons of pictures of my kids.
What issues are important to you that led you to cloth diapering? Enviroment? Cost? Natural parenting? My son Ashton, was completely planned using a ovulation kit. Thankfully we were successful at our first try. A little soon after finding out we were in fact pregnant I started to do some research on natural baby products in which I discovered cloth diapers. As soon as I read about them, I knew I wanted to do things different with him then I did with my daughter, reading all the benefits cloth diapers brought it only made sense to also do it for the environmental and cost side of it. I was hooked and couldn't wait to buy my first cloth diapers.
Your third child is due to arrive any day now. Are you planning on using cloth immediately? How have you prepared for cloth diapering a newborn? I am due April 10th. I do plan on cloth diapering immediately, after talking to Valerie (Diaper Junction) today, she has totally reassured me that it will be an easy thing to do at the hospital and newborn babies diapers will not stink like my 17 month olds :) So I am very excited about this. I just hope I have enough cloth diapers to diaper him in. I mean you can only prepare yourself to a certain extent, but without really knowing how many diapers your baby will go through within a day there really is no telling. So only time will tell if I prepared correctly and if I didn't then that will be my story to tell and hope that others will learn from my experience.
